Educational Technology Course
As an EFL teacher, one of the reasons why I applied for this master program (Applied Linguistics and Language Studies) is to acquire the skills and competencies that would allow me enhance my teaching practices. Eventually, there have been many subjects from which I’ve learned so many things related to teaching and learning.
I’ve always believed that effective teachers are those who bring innovation to their classrooms. So, when I heard that we are taking the course of Educational Technology, I was very excited because I knew it would help me a lot in my career. I actually had great expectations from this course, willing to learn about educational technology and how to implement it in my classroom.
I would say that I fell in love with this course from the first session when our professor Dr. Brahim Machaal introduced ‘Google Classroom’, and asked us to use our smartphones and computers to complete the tasks. It was really an enjoyable experience that triggered my curiosity for the coming lessons. However, the whole course was very informative and enjoyable mainly because it was more learner-centered. We learned so many things about technological tools, platforms, software and applications used in education. We also learned how to use of technology to design, implement and assess learning experiences to engage students and improve learning.
What I liked about the course is that it wasn’t taught in isolation of the other courses we took. Although it was more practical, our professor would always refer to the theoretical framework of the course depicted from the constructivist approach. In addition, it gave us the opportunity to apply some of the things we studied in other subjects. For instance, we studied task-based and project-based learning in the course of Teaching Methods and e-portfolio as a form of assessment in the course of Language Testing. Thanks to Educational Technology course, we could apply what we learnt in these courses in the tasks and projects we had, mainly the e-portfolio project and online courses.
To sum up, Educational Technology has helped me broaden my knowledge on how to use the various tools and technology devices to facilitate learning. Thanks to this course, I took two online courses (MOOCs) related to teaching and learning, and I created my own teacher e-portfolio that will stay with me forever. Therefore, I strongly believe that Educational Technology is one of the most interesting and beneficial courses we have taken in this master program.
